Give homeowners a ballpark on interior and exterior painting

Painting prices swing on a handful of answers: inside or outside, how many square feet, one story or three, and whether trim, doors and shutters are in. Instant Ballpark lets you ask those exact questions on your site and show a rough range from rules you set. You can start from the Painting template and swap in your own numbers, so a homeowner refreshing two bedrooms and one repainting a colonial each see a range that fits their job.

Your prices, your rules

You decide what the estimator shows. Start with a starting price range, then add questions and rules: fixed amounts, per-unit charges, percentage increases or decreases, or a set range for a specific answer. Nothing is guessed for you. For an exterior paint job, that might look like:

  • A starting range for exterior painting
  • First in the rule order: one set-range rule for each home size option (for example, under 1,500 sq ft, 1,500 to 2,500 sq ft, and over 2,500 sq ft)
  • A fixed add when the home is two stories
  • A fixed add when the home is three stories
  • A fixed add when trim and shutters are included
  • A fixed add when the siding needs scraping or repair before painting

Each rule checks one answer, and rules run in the order you set. A set-range rule replaces the current range, so those go first and the fixed adds stack on top.

Example rules only. You set your own numbers.

Leads that show up with the details

Instead of a name, a phone number and "get back to me," you see the homeowner's answers and the range they were shown: interior or exterior, the size of the home, how many stories, and what needs prep work. You know what the job is before you reply.

Honest expectations, up front

What homeowners see is 'Your ballpark estimate', and it is not a final price. Surface condition, peeling, wood rot, color changes and how much needs moving or masking all show up once you're there, so your own walkthrough sets the final price. Before that, a homeowner can tell whether a full exterior or just the main floor fits their plans.

How it works

  1. Build your estimator. Add your questions and pricing rules. Building and previewing is free.
  2. Add it to your website. Use a hosted link, an inline embed, or a delayed popup.
  3. Get better-informed leads. Homeowners answer a few questions and see a ballpark range. You get their answers and the range they saw.

FAQ

Is there a starting point for painting?

Yes. The Painting template gives you example questions and rules. You replace the example prices with your own.

Can I price interior and exterior separately?

Yes. Make it the first question and give each answer its own set range, then layer the other rules on top.

How do stories and height factor in?

Ask how many stories and use a fixed add or a percentage for two- and three-story homes.

Can trim, doors and cabinets be extras?

Yes. Ask about each and add a fixed amount, or use a per-unit rule for doors or cabinet fronts.

What about prep like scraping or patching?

Add a question about condition and a fixed add when prep work is needed. Your walkthrough confirms the rest.
